What's Next for Kael?

Last week I posted about my current writing project, the four-volume prequel series Wandering Stars, which will tell the story of a renegade faction of angels who shift their existence from the eternal realm into the temporal and begin their inhabitation of the earth. This story will follow Sariel, a respected warrior, who abandons his home and reputation for the love of a human woman and finds himself standing between others of his kind and those they seek to rule.

While I’m moving full-steam-ahead on Wandering Stars, I don’t want you to think I’ve forgotten about Kael. For everyone who’s asked for more books, let me say, “I’m just getting started!”

***While I’m not revealing anything new, this may be considered a SPOILER ALERT for those who haven’t picked up on the clues that I dropped throughout The Awakened***

Those of you who’ve made it to the end of The Awakened: Book Three know that Kael is headed for our world. You also know that waiting for him on the other side of the portal are two-thousand armed soldiers and a military compound rigged with explosives. Here are a few other thoughts and observations for you to ponder:
  • In Book One and Book Three, we see an eruption of water immediately preceding Rameel’s release into our world. In Book One, we see the ocean levels in our world rising, causing global flooding and devastation. Where did this water come from and how is it going to affect our world?
  • In Book Two and Book Three, we see Rameel (The All-Powerful) interact with another of his kind—Armaros. Armaros lives in our world and agrees to help Rameel get back to his world, which we see fulfilled in Book Two. But who is Armaros, and what is he doing in our world?
  • Adair’s passage into our world, and Rameel’s passage back-and-forth between the two, tell us that more than one world exists in parallel to each other. Are there more?
  • In Book One, we see Adair rescued from Armaros’ soldiers by an opposing military force. Does the military force represent a government or private organization? What happens to Adair?
  • In Book Three, Kael heads into our world and his father is already here! Will they meet up again?
  • In Book One, Adair’s passage into our world occurs when Kael is just a child, and appears to happen instantly. But when Adair arrives in our world, he sees the devastation of flooding just after Rameel was released…in Book Three. Then, we see Kael enter the portal only months after Rameel’s release. How old will Adair and Kael be in relation to one another our world?
I know it’s somewhat cruel to get your mind thinking in this direction without having a book for you to read. But I want you to know that I’m still thinking about Kael’s continuing story and where it’s going…just like you!

It would seem obvious, but it’s worth stating that future books in The Awakened series will move out of the genre of fantasy toward urban-fantasy, military-fiction, and science-fiction. Whereas Sariel’s story takes a giant leap toward supernatural, mythical, prehistoric, high-fantasy. I don’t know if this is a positive or negative for you. But for me, I’m excited to write across these genres because, if you think about it, the only thing that really changes is the setting. Whether I’m dealing with sword fights or gun battles, car chases or cavalry charges, mythical beasts or synthetic bio-mechanical armies, I’m writing about heroes and their personal/physical/emotional journeys. I’m writing about the people whose lives they touch. I’m writing about the enemies who refuse to go without a fight. And I’m writing about a conflict that rages for millennia.

When it’s all said and done, you’ll see how all the pieces fit together. And it’s going to be a fun ride!

I can't wait for the next book and hoping to see it in theater soon!!!

Thanks! It would be my dream to have this made into a movie, and to be part of the movie-making process. Because of the scope of the story, it would probably have to be a TV mini-series. Either way, it would be awesome!

One of the most well written books I have read in a long time. I can't imagine the creativity that it takes to accomplish something like this. I agree about putting this story on a screen..any screen. If people liked twilight, they'll be drooling over this! fantastic work Mr. Tesar!

Thank you so much. I really appreciate the encouragement.

I love these books. I could see these books as a series of movies similar to Lord of the Rings. But I always enjoy a book more than a movie, the magic is in the details and you just don't get the same feeling from the big screen. I can't wait to read more.

Thank you so very much for the free first book.....enjoyed it and will buy the other two!!!!!

Thank you! At first I wasn't sure if I would enjoy the first book...but I must say I LOVED it!!! I bought the other 2 the same day!!! I just finished book 3...and I can't wait for more books. It would also be awesome to see these made into a movie...and this may seem strange but I see the guy who played Thor as Kael. Anyways...thank you again!!!

Thanks! I think Chris Hemsworth would make a great Kael.

Is book 3 out?? I am the biggest book nerd ever, I'll read just about anything, even though I'm very critical. I have really enjoyed the first two books, so much I begged my fiance (who despised reading with a passion you wouldn't believe) to sample the first book. After I read him the first two or three chapters he was hooked!! He has even gone on to read several other some-what similar books by different authors, but The Awakened series is by far his, and mine, favorite. Thank you so much, its nice to know that now a love for reading is something else we have in common. We just needed to find him something that peeked (and maintained) his interest, and I don't know if that would've happened without your books. Thank you again, and and we cant wait for more. :)

Hi Anonymous,

That's awesome about your fiance and one of the coolest things I've heard! I'm humbled to be a part of something that brings you closer together.

Book Three is available, here's a link: http://www.amazon.com/The-Awakened-Book-Three-ebook/dp/B0051AD2AY/ref=sr_1_3?s=books&ie=UTF8&qid=1327000676&sr=1-3

Before I continue with Kael's story (Book Four and beyond), I will release a four-volume prequel series. The first volume should also be available within a couple months.

This was my first time reading this kind of book, but I must say that I thoroughly enjoyed it! After reading the book one which I down loaded for free I had to buy the other two immediately! I will continue to read your books, for they are captivating and entertaining! Thanks for opening me up to something new!

It's awesome to hear folks say, "I don't usually read this kind of stuff, but..." I'm really glad you enjoyed them!

OK, you can quit your day job. :-)
Seriously, I read all three back to back. Great writing. Can't wait for the prequels, I'm interested to get your take on this great bible passage. :-)

I have just read all three of your books in a week, I loved them. Do you have a date for when your prequels will be released, as I can not wait to continue your story. Please please please let your fans know soon.

I loved your books :) I read all 3 in 2 days. I was constantly surprised and didn't know what would happen next! And found all this by accident because your first book was free at amazon. Ready for more and movies too!

Jason Tesar said...

Helen84,

I'm trying really hard to have the next book out by the end of February. I've been slipping behind schedule lately, but I temporarily adjusted my work hours at my day job to free up another writing day during the week, so hopefully it helps! When the next book is available, I'll be sure to post the announcement here on my blog, on Facebook and Twitter, and everywhere else I can think of.

Loved all three books and read them in about a week. Come'on man. More Kael! Saba is drip. Not excited about a prequel at all. Good luck. Let me know when you get back to Kael's story and I'll start buying your books again.

Jason Tesar said...

Pete,

Dude! A drip? That's because you have no idea what's about to go down :) Wandering Stars is going to be crazy and you'll never look at Saba the same way again. Anyway, glad you liked the books.

I have written on here before about how the guy who played Thor, Chris Hemsworth, would make a great Kael...well I'm such a nerd I heard a song by Skillet called Awake and Alive and I just see this song on the soundtrack if these were made into a movie....yeah just a housewife with a lot of time on my hands...lol

I just just finnished up the third book. Awesome! The way you described the battle scenes and carried the action from one scene to the next was intense. I am anxiously waiting to see how Kael handles two thousand armed men and explosives once exiting the portal.

Jason Tesar said...

Thanks kandy. At this point, I can't make a living writing. But I'm sure it'll happen eventually. For now, I'm enjoying the stability of the day job, and my writing benefits from the lack of pressure at having to make money through it.

Jason Tesar said...

Thanks Anonymous!

I love intense action sequences. In movies, some of my favorite hand-to-hand combat scenes are from the first Matrix and the Bourne movies. For my next novels, I'm hoping to work with a martial-arts expert who's studied numerous disciplines. I also really like battle scenes, like the lobby scene from the Matrix and the bank shootout from Heat.

It's going to be a little while before I can get back to Kael's story, but I'm also excited to figure out how he will get out of such a mess :)

Agreed!! Think of it as the same as the star wars saga... We need this prequel to fill in the blanks.

These stories are awesome. Thank you. I can not imagine having had this story in your mind for as long as you have. Keep up the good work and I look forward to the next release.

It's a good thing your first hit is free. Thanks to Amazon offering book number one, as I chose it for my first kindle experience. Like everyone has blogged, I tore through book 1, then immediately bought and read booked 2&3! I haven't been able to do anything else.
Getting back into the "real world" is torturous.
I totally agree with your bloggers that this series would make a fantastic film experience-- in 3-D!
I live in L.A. And I'm surprised dyou haven't sent a treatment to an agent here. And you have a day job??? Come to L.A.
Gratefully,
Tamra

Jason Tesar said...

Hi Tamra,

I'm so glad you enjoyed the books! It would be awesome to have this made into a movie, but I have way too many things on my "to-do" list, and a treatment would only distract me from writing more of this epic. Someday, perhaps.

I just finished the 3rd book and highly recommended them to all my friends and family that read. These are a different style of book than I usually read and I am totally hooked!! I have to say that I did think this was a triology for some reason so imangine my suprise:) Can't wait for more of your books...with some answers! LOVE THEM! Congratulations!

Jason Tesar said...

Thanks so much for recommending them to others! Sorry about the "trilogy" confusion, but I'm glad you enjoyed them anyway.

I just finished the trilogy. I was madly in love with these books and was so sad about the ending. So many unanswered questions which prompted me to come to your web site.. I am THRILLED to hear about 4 new prequels coming out. Your stories are amazing and I have recommended them to all my friends. Amazing imagination. Thank you for such great work..

Glad you enjoyed the books.

Argh. I have to say I'm very annoyed. I downloaded your book on my kindle as a freebie, bought the next 2, and now I have to wait for the next book. Hurry up, will you? :-D

On a different note, I'm glad to see books like this involving some of the Biblical mysteries that no one has figured out. After this series you might look into the Nephilim 'sons of God', the tower of Babel, the flood, or even Genesis 1:2, which in some translations mentions that the earth BECAME void and empty. Hmm...

Keep up the good work!

Jason Tesar said...

Hi Michelle,

I'm truly sorry that you have to wait! I wish I had the whole story out there for people to read--both the Wandering Stars and The Awakened series. Thanks for your patience!

The Wandering Stars books will deal directly with the Nephilim and the flood, and I think you'll enjoy my "two-cents" on the subject.

In doing research for Wandering Stars and developing the backstory for the angelic cultures involved, I also made some conceptual notes for a spin-off series. It would involve an "old-earth" creation perspective, taking place during the ages before time was measured (i.e. before the sun and moon were created, or used as reference points to mark the passage of time). Also, before the fall, all of creation was immortal, so the passage of time would have been somewhat irrelevant--especially before humans were created (I'm sure I'll get all kinds of emails and blog comments about this!). Anyway, I hadn't thought about the possible tie-in to that interpretation of Gen 1:2, but that might be an interesting possibility. Thanks for the input!

Glad you enjoyed the books.

All I can say is Wow! I literally stumbled upon book one and was immediately enthralled. Just finished book 3 and the incarnation is waiting for me to dive in. You have written an epic series and just infused so much thought provoking scenes that's fed my literary hunger! Bravo! I will be reading Sariel's story as I await Book 4. Thank u!

This is by far the best series I have read in a very long time. You are to be commended for your superior story telling skills. Even with all the different characters and story lines going at the same time, I never once felt lost nor disconnected from the characters. It is a story that you become so immersed in, you can almost forget you are reading a book. Very well done Jason. I will most definitely be buying all of your future books.

Jason Tesar said...

Thank you so much for your kind words!

I too, can't wait to read more about Kael's ongoing journey. This series is in itself, a departure from the normal things I read but I am now a big fan of a brilliant writer . Keep it up! I'll be waiting for more!

Thank you Denise! It's exciting when I hear of readers exploring new genres or subjects because of something I've written. I'm humbled by your words and blessed to have fans at all!

I loved these books! I don't think they should be a movie but like you mentioned previously a min series would be perfect. Like HBO does with game of thrones and Tru Blood. Movie execs nowadays want everything pg13 and to me me that would be horrible for The Awakened. Yeah anyway I just bought Incarnation and am looking forward to more from you.

Jason Tesar said...

Thanks, and I hope you enjoy Incarnation.

Hey Jason, I just have a question. When the all powerful came to our world, he said that Saba tricked him and sent him there, how did he do that? I'm confused about that. Is that something that's in Wandering stars? Or did I miss something?

Jason Tesar said...

Hi Fazayah,

Great question! Yes, that is something that will be covered in the Wandering Stars series, but not until the last book (Volume Four). You didn't miss anything.
